Mkombozi Centre for Street Children

Affordable Computers and Technology for Tanzania (ACTT)

To learn more about ACTT and how you can support the project (briefly described below), visit the ACTT website: www.actt.mkombozi.org

ACTT is a new venture that serves as an income generating activity for Mkombozi’s residential centre while simultaneously providing computer maintenance skills to young Tanzanians.  This is done by selling computers that have been refurbished by street youth who live at Mkombozi and have been trained as hardware and software technicians. The refurbished computers are sold at a discounted rate to schools, businesses and not-for-profit organisations throughout Tanzania to promote IT, enhance education, create employment opportunities, and assist older street youth to make the transition to independent living.

Contact ACTT to donate a used PC

From within Tanzania and abroad, you can donate your used computer equipment to ACTT. These donations are either refurbished or they are used to train Mkombozi’s street youth as computer technicians.

Contact ACTT buy a refurbished PC

ACTT supplies low-cost, refurbished computers to schools and charities throughout the country. From within Tanzania, you are welcome to buy ACTT’s computers from Mkombozi.

"ACTT now" and support a school in Tanzania

ACTT has already established 12 Computer Technology Learning Centres (CTLCs) in rural schools throughout the northern zone! ACTT’s goal is to reach at least two thirds of Tanzania’s schools by the year 2011 and furnish them with an sustainable, equipped and functional CTLC and has an extensive list of schools who are interested in this initiative. ACTT needs you to support one of these schools.

Be an ACTT volunteer

Skilled, professional individuals are welcome to volunteer with the ACTT team as a hardware/software technician or a trainer. This is a remarkable opportunity to work closely with Mkombozi’s older street youth, providing them with employable skills and preparing them for independent living outside the residential centre.

Join the ACTT team

If you have professional experience and training as a computer technician or trainer, you may be interested to apply for a career with Mkombozi’s ACTT team. ACTT is currently seeking qualified Capacity Building Officers, Assistant Training Officers, IT / Training Officer, and Computer Electronics / Hardware Trainers.
