Mkombozi Centre for Street Children

Be an e-Mentor

Mentor an Mkombozi boy online and help him to build a future! You will make a real difference in the life of an underprivileged, but enthusiastic and motivated child.

You are welcome to join an innovative, new project undertaken by Mkombozi in partnership with naomba.com, East Africa's largest portal, and icouldbe.org, a US-based non-profit. Together, we are participating in the first online mentoring program in Africa which will eventually be able to serve schools throughout the region.

Volunteer e-Mentors give a small amount of their time each week (less than 1 hour) to correspond online with an Mkombozi boy who is registered as a student with icouldbe.org. Specifically, you will help him to understand and develop ideas such as saving money, planning for the next few years of life, and developing skills which help him grow personally.

Note that e-Mentoring is not an academic / teaching position.  It is a position in which you give some of your hard-earned and extensive life-knowledge to someone else, who in turn helps to build the community around them.  The Mkombozi boy with whom you are connected will be a student who has similar interests (e.g. banking, commerce, art, writing).  Each week, when your mentee goes online (at Mkombozi’s IT centre) to work through his curriculum (designed by icouldbe.org), you as mentor, will supervise his movement through the curriculum and help him when he is stuck.

Application details are provided in the box on the right side of this page. Of course, please feel free to contact Mkombozi with any questions or concerns before you apply as an e-Mentor.

Please note that we are recognising all the businesses that participate in this program by providing them with access to a free naomba.com “premium page” (i.e. a listing in our online database of 10,000+ businesses) and mention on a special “thanks page”.

NOTE: Mkombozi's recruitment and selection procedures reflect our commitment to the safety and protection of children in our care, activities and programs. Volunteers are expected to comply with Mkombozi's Child Protection Policy.
